“Seasons of Non” is up and running at Blackbird located in Seattle. Unholy Matrimony owner, Brett Westfall, was up there prior to the weekend’s opening to make sure things were in order in time for this joint venture between the two entities. The project was covered here by us, but to refresh your memory, “Seasons of Non” is a retail project installation that is to last 4 months at Blackbird and it will feature Westfall’s Unholy Matrimony line, which we also covered recently here. A cool tidbit of information regarding the objects used to create this installation are that the pieces were found in the maritime town of Ballard and were taken back to Blackbird on foot. Westfall’s explanation for travelling by foot is that he wanted to take in the experience and to get a better understanding of the community and citizens of Ballard. We would now like to take the time to present some images of what went down over the past weekend’s opening. Read the full story
The first delivery of what will be around 25 pieces from Unholy Matrimony’s 2009 collection has arrived at the Comme des Garcons Guerrilla Store +1 213. I had a chance to try out all the pieces pictured inside this post, and I must say that the fit and quality are both great. Artist and Designer, Brett Westfall, does a nice job combining high-quality construction with forward thinking avant-garde design to create his pieces. The shirts feature same amazing tailoring and little details like dual pockets located on top of one another, a flannel vest that is stitched on top of the tee shirt that lies underneath, and pants that feature some very nice lining and rugged construction. In addition to the shirts and pants, there are 2 small bags in a lavender color and black perfect for toting around some small items. Check inside for a glimpse of what is coming from Unholy Matrimony. Read the full story
This October will bring the union of Blackbird and Unholy Matrimony in the form of a shop-in-shop, a conceptual installation. Brett Westfall, Comme des Garcons collaborator and L.A based artist/designer, will construct a free form installation within Blackbird where his Unholy Matrimony collection will be sold through February 2009. The collection is entitled ‘Seasons of Non’ and is based on Brett’s concept of ‘questioning the real in reality’. What this means, we hope to discover on Oct 25th, when the shop opens and our friends gather to celebrate and take in the happenings.

Brett Westfall will be releasing a book titled Hallucinations of Patterson in a comic book style format slated to release August 16th. The book will be released at his upcoming show, “Pencil,” at the Untitled Gallery in Los Angeles. The book is a factual account of the events that led to the inspiration for his Sherf paintings, which ultimately were made into shirts for the Comme des Garcons Comme des Garcons line for women and an Unholy Matrimony version for men. The book also features photography highlighting the signs on the side of the that Westfall and his Unholy Matrimony partner, Greg Richmond, encountered on their strange detour while driving in Northern California. The book will be available at the CDG +1 213 Guerrilla Store, MOCA, Santa Monica Museum of Art, and retail locations that carry Unholy Matrimony and Comme des Garcons.
