In 2008, Juxtapoz Magazine and Upper Playground asked David Choe, Alex Pardee, Saber & Retna to paint their way across the United States. Traveling the country from Washington D.C. to the Bay Area with spray cans in their hands and cameras following, they bombed, brushed, and painted, leaving a swath of color and creativity in their wake. This short documentary piece, set to the music of Cutsoquick, captures the artists as they hit the streets collaborating on huge pieces and connecting with fans and admirers of their art from all walks of life. Watch the film on Walrus TV.

The last Sparks x UP x Juxtapoz “Ignite What’s Next” Tour stop will be in Phoenix at the Marquee Theater this Saturday. Part of me wishes I could go, although the last time I had a few Sparks, well, it was hectic. But Killer Mike at the event in Atlanta? Forget about it, that must have been a real show.

Thanks to Sam Flores, Alex Pardee, and the tallest man in art, N8 Van Dyke, for showing up, painting live, and enjoy themselves. And to Sam for having his shirt off most the tour. That looked like Sam.

I got an email from my friends over at Upper Playground this morning, announcing they have just teamed up with Digital Gravel to sell their exclusive artist-designed Obama prints on limited edition tees through Digital Gravel’s web site. All proceeds, as always, go to creating more stickers, prints, tees, and promotional items to get Obama in the mind’s of every voter. Its a great cause; buy one if you can’t afford a campaign contribution. I love what UP has done with the Obama prints and tees. I’m proud that they have taken a lot of time to devote themselves to the campaign. The tees include designs from The Date Farmers, Munk One, Sam Flores, Alex Pardee, Grotesk, Morning Breath, and Ron English. I like the Grotesk design a lot, that red one above. . . .

Going out to see Aaron Horkey at his group show at Upper Playground’s FIFTY24SF Gallery in San Francisco tonight. If you haven’t see his work, we did a feature on him in Juxtapoz in April of this year; not only is he a good guy, but he is one of the most talented fine artist/illustrators in the world today. He is immense in his talent actually, and being that he is from Minnesota, he gets the long winters to stay indoors and work. Check out Juxtapoz.com, UpperPlaygroundGlobal.blogspot.com, and BurlesqueDesign.com for more info on the show at Horkey.
