UK based street artist Will Barras came to prominence through his unique fluid painting style and prolific skateboard and clothing designs which led to him becoming a founding member of the Scrawl Collective, whilst continuing with these, he now focuses more heavily on gallery shows and animation projects. His latest exhibition is set to open in San Francisco, entitled “Darling We’re Leaving!” it features new works on display at FIFTY24SF Gallery from November 5 – November 24, 2009. Thinkspace has a very special group show opening tonight, August 14th. Curated by MODART Magazine, the exhibition celebrates the release of the popular street art publication’s 20th issue and highlights their transition to a new quarterly book-based format. Featured artist of the month is Mr. Jago.

The eclectic international lineup also includes Bo130, Brooke Reidt, Chris Bourke, Christopher Lambert, Dave The Chimp, Dennis McNett, El Gato Chimney, Ephameron, Faith 47, Galo, Guillaume Desmarets, Invisible Heroes (Admir Jahic and Comenius Roethlisberger), Jon Burgerman, KuKula, Landry and Limbo, Logan Hicks, Lyle Owerko, Microbo, Morcky, Nomad, Ruedione, SheOne, Stefan Strumbel, Stephen Smith (aka Neasden Control Centre), Tim Biskup, Vincent Skoglund and Will Barras.

Nomad and Guillaume Desmarets will be in attendance at the opening.

“Get Rich Quick!” at Carmichael Gallery

Hollywood’s Carmichael Gallery played host to a group show of epic proportions last night. The list of artists showing is a who’s who of contemporary art. Adam Neate, Antony Micallef, Banksy, Barry McGee, Bast, D*face, Dalek, David Choe,David Choong Lee, Faile, Herbert Baglione, Ian Francis, Kaws, Nick Walker, Paul Insect, Shepard Fairey, Sixeart, Skullphone, Space Invader, Swoon, Will Barras. Arrested Motion put it best “ Visiting the gallery was like seeing a modern day museum retrospective of the last five years in urban art. Truly amazing.”

The show lasts till May 28th and can’t be missed!

First Look at the Will Barras Oakley Artist Series Montefrio

Well, the title is not entirely accurate as we gave you a look at the Will Barras Oakley Artist Series Montefrio sunglass here a little while ago, but, I just happened to be at Oakley Headquarters today for a meeting and a good friend there was kind enough to give me this sample pair of the sunglasses. These turned out great to say the least and I think it is safe to say that this is my favorite Artist Series edition to date. As you can see here, all the art work on the box and sunglasses comes courtesy of Barras and as an added bonus, a bandana featuring the same work can be found inside of the box — it even served as the backdrop for these images that I took. Another special treat will be thrown in the mix for the actual release, which will be in January of 2009. Be on the lookout for that as the time draws near, but in the meanwhile, check the images after the jump.

Introducing ‘Will Barras’

This week’s Introducing features London-based artist Will Barras. I have been following Barras’ work quite a bit this year and even checked out a show he had in Los Angeles at the Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art. At that very show entitled, An Absolut Shower, I saw his works and his distinct style that I had heard so much about first hand. Shortly after that, I caught glimpse at the list of participating collaborators for the Oakley Artist Series program that was implemented this year. Barras’ name was on there along with other great names such as Barry McGee, The London Police, Todd Francis and many more. Hearing about his involvement and knowing that he would be doing a Montefrio sunglass for the eyewear juggernauts excited me. I knew his style and work would make for an interesting piece of work for Oakley.

Here is an image of what will be coming out in January of next year. You can really see Barras’ work shine as it is emblazoned on the packaging, the sunglass bag and most importantly, the sunglass itself.

In addition to taking on many commissions, as he is a very sought after artist when it comes to the commissions game, he has exhibited all over the world along side many great talents. When Barras is not on the road showing and painting, he is a director at an animation company called Bermuda Shorts, which also boasts an impressive resume of clients the likes of Budweiser, Bayer, Volkswagen, Coca Cola just to name a few. It is clear to see that Will Barras is thriving and his work continues to impress and looks like it will for years to come. Will Barras Live Painting Show

London based artist Will Barras is set to put together a live painting at the Grand Gallery in Zurich. This exciting talent will culminate in an exciting show well worth checking out if in the area as the artist will work during the vernissage on Thursday, 25h of September.

Barra explores movement. His work revolves around the deformation of a figurative image, creating a new form that renders speed and movement. None of his work is static. That’s why this Londoner paints sport with predilection. Always on the lookout for a new brushstroke that will take him to a place of discovery yet to exist…the streak that catches up with him is none other than his signature, which renders its speed with grace… Even when he explores new supports like drum skins, or uses very large formats, the shapes of his figures seem to emerge from deep within his being with so much power and intensity that nothing seems capable of altering a stroke.
