WK Interact, another highly coveted street artist, has taken to the streets of Paris to update his works from a year ago. In similar vein he takes inspiration from  the NYC “Occupy” movement that has spread across the globe, the New York-based artist revisited areas such as Bastille Station to lay down some unique imagery in support.

PBS Arts ‘Off Book’: Fashion of Artists is a post from: SLAMXHYPE

Here is a moving piece of work from French artist WK Interact who has paid homage to the victims of the 9/11 tragedy. With a strong signature look, that embraces motion this piece makes for great reading measuring some 328 feet and entitled Project Brave is dedicated to firefighters. Located on Kent avenue in New York City, between North 4th and North 5th streets it will be up until October 11 and is well worth checking out in the flesh.

WK INTERACT “Black Palace Mexico” Interview is a post from: SLAMXHYPE

New York based street artist WK Interact has been busy in Paris recently, and here is a look at teh works that appear on the streets. Taking on board a strong bondage influence, the works are fairly moderate in comparison to the recent project the artist revealed in Mexico although just as impressive.

When someone mentions street art, you instantly think of cities like New York, London, Tokyo and Barcelona, not the sleepy rural village of Street in Somerset, England. However, that is exactly where one of the most exciting contemporary art shows in the UK is currently taking place.

Street is home to the Atkinson Gallery, who’s mandate is to promote and support young aspiring artists, whilst also bringing art of an international calibre to the South West Region of England. They have previously hosted works from Andy Warhol, Gillian Ayres and Bert Irvin but for their latest exhibition “Natural Selection” they have turned to the renowned Elms Lesters Painting Rooms in London to put together a show which features the work of some of the biggest artists on the scene, including Adam Neate, Jose Parla, Phil Frost, Boris Tellegen (DELTA), Anthony Lister, James Marshall aka DALEK, Futura, Mark Dean Veca, Ron English, Stash, and WK Interact. Check out the images of the works on show below, the exhibition runs until 12th December and if you are in the South of England its definitely worth a trip to check out.

It’s fantastic to see these artists exhibiting in a provincial gallery outside of a big city. Only a few years ago their work was seen as mere graffiti art and a novelty in galleries, but given this chance their work has made a real emotional connection with both collectors and art lovers alike and is now accepted as part of the fine art scene and exhibitions welcomed in out of the way places, more know for galleries presenting scenic water colours than abstract, street inspired canvases.

Having much hype around his new show, WK Interact finally opened his show ‘How To Blow Yourself Up’ at Subliminal Projects last weekend. ‘focusing on giant canvas works, this show is centered around the intricately designed urban mechanisms and interactive installations which were handcrafted by WK himself. The show was filled with his signature kinetic energy and even the installations seemed to radiate and pulsate with an tense pressure.’ was the feeling that Arrested Motion witnessed at the opening launch of the show. “Natural Selection” is a new exhibition curated by Elms Lester at The Atkinson Gallery in Somerset, England.  The exhibition will include works by Adam Neate, Jose Parla, Phil Frost, Boris Tellegen (DELTA), Anthony Lister, James Marshall (DALEK), Futura, Mark Dean Veca, Ron English, Stash, WK Interact, Snug and Andrew McAttee.

In addition a beautiful 48 page soft cover limited edition catalogue, compiled by Fiona McKinnon and designed by Iain Cadby of World’s Design, is being produced to accompany the exhibition and will be for sale at the Atkinson Gallery, along with a selection of Elms Lesters’ renowned publications.

The exhibition opens on Saturday 31st October and runs until 12th December 2009

Opening on the 7th November at Subliminal Projects gallery is new show from WK Interact titled ‘How To Blow Yourself Up’. Taking people’s obsessive fear of having the world come to an end one day, WK Interact twists the idea into personal freedom. Turning objects such as skateboards and bicycles into destructive weapons by breaking parts down and building them up again, colorful and intricate this will be a fascinating exhibition to see. As the artist himself put it; ‘New York and everything about it that surrounds me – the nonstop energy, the movement, the grit, the noise. People love to put stories on top of art, to make it about something grand, but it’s very simple. It’s about an artist and a place.’
