If you’ve ever noticed that an eggshell seems tougher, it’s because of the age of the chicken. Younger chickens tend to lay eggs that have harder shells, while older chicken lay eggs with thinner shells.

  • Genes of the hens determine shell color. White-feathered chickens with white earlobes lay white eggs; red or brown ones with red earlobes lay brown eggs. According to a recent study, brown egg-producing hens require more feed to accommodate their larger size. The extra care and feed that these hens require is a huge expense to the farmer. Farmers pass that expense along to the consumer.
  • Eggs are a good source of many nutrients. One large egg contains calories,  protein, unsaturated fats, and cholesterol. The total fat content is approximately 5-6 grams in one large egg. However, it is true that there is a very little amount of Omega-3’s fatty acids found among the brown eggs. However, the amount is extremely less and negligible.

The chickens are fed differently which impacts the quality and taste of the egg.
