Hygiene Mistakes-We learns many hygiene practices when we mature, and there are some which get imbibed in us at a very tender age. However, there is a possibility of overkill sometimes when we forget. Wisdom regarding good hygiene is often conveyed to us by government agencies, health experts and our parents also. A little disorientation of these acts leaves us more susceptible to injuries, infections, wounds or just a blurry image of cleanliness that isn’t really there. So here I am jotting down some mistakes people make when it comes to hygiene and the remedy to that. Do your health a favor by working some of these out!

The wax in our ears certainly doesn’t look nice. But here’s what, they are actually present to protect your eardrums from invading agents or dust. Doctors believe that during eating or talking we are actually indirectly flushing out the old accumulated wax from the ear, it’s a self-cleaning process.

Swabs actually push the wax inside, packing it around the eardrum and in the canal. So what can be done? Experts suggest that you leave it alone. Sometimes ears do get way too waxy; in that case, clean it with a washcloth.

  1. Maintain the makeup you use

This is one of the common hygiene mistakes people can ever make, avoid sharing your makeup with your roomies, relatives or even your BFFs as they can pass on germs causing infections. Never leave your brushes in the pouches for too long as they become a breeding ground for bacteria due to the warm environment. Hence, never forget to clean your makeup brushes on a regular basis.

  1. Trimming way too short nails

Ah! One of the issues that could arise from cutting your nails too short is ingrown toenails. To avoid inflammation, tenderness or ingrown nails, cut straight across your finger and toenails.

Let there be ample growth before you trim again, probably a few weeks. Bacteria and fungus can be warded off from well-groomed nails as they can hide underneath spreading to other parts of the body.

  1. Wearing the same PJs again and again

As much as we adore our PJs, wearing them for repetitive nights can be bad for hygiene. Fecal matter (for those who go commando), yeast and other bugs breed in these pajamas. If you spend so many hours in them, experts suggest that you wash them daily and some believe that once a week works too.

  1. Forgetting to clean contact lenses

On a regular basis, people sleep or swim with contact lenses on. This can lead to corneal ulcers, mold growth over the contacts or can increase the risk of eye infection. Don’t forget to remove and clean the lenses every night with clean hands.

  1. Skipping Shower

Going on too many days without bathing can lead to skin infections and other problems. Avoid shower strikes. You’re prone to countless levels of ick when you are out during the day, besides generating sweaty germs. Do a favor for those around you y keeping odors at bay and hit the shower to prevent the growth of bacteria.

  1. Swapping out of the toothbrush

I hope you have heard this from sources often that you should replace your toothbrush every 3 months. Lessen this time if you’ve been ill in between this frame. Invisible spray for toilets, exposure to mold bacteria or germs cause a threat to our overall health. Keep the toothbrush at least 4 feet away from the toilet, if you have a tiny bathroom.

  1. Reducing your oral ritual

Are you brushing twice in a day? How about flossing? Poor oral health can be a threat to the heart and respiratory system. Brush for a span of 2 minutes and then floss and wash well. Dentists recommend cleaning the tongue and cheeks to get rid of breeding microbes and to prevent any infection.

  1. Reuse of towels

Sometimes we use bath towels or kitchen rags past their prime time wherein they should be put into the wash. Bodily bacteria, fluids and fungi and everything else can be stuck to the towels.

So here’s a quick tip:

  • Kitchen towels should be put to wash after 1 to 2 uses
  • Bath towels up to 3 days
  • Hand Towels up to 2 days
  1. Bad Handwashing

We all know as a matter of fact that not everyone washes their hand every time they use the washroom. We are being judgemental here, and people should stop because it’s gross. Wash the hands long enough to recite the alphabet song twice. Scrub between the fingers and nails without fail.

  1. Too much exfoliation

There should be a limit to the number of times we exfoliate for the benefits of our dear skin. It does strip down dead skin cells, but it also helps remove oils, good bacteria, and moisture. Don’t do this routine more than thrice a week or lesser if you have sensitive skin.
